New Balance & Converse made in america! One of many responsible companies. I'm not say just buy US. I have also know IBM Philipines also takes of their communities overseas. Starbuck benefits for all employees, US and overseas, and they have a clean water program for third world countries. ( I just don't like the taste of their coffee, and they suck at cappuccino.)
Yes, I understand that the mojority of shoes and clothes are made overseas. I'm not saying don't buy consumer goods just because they're made in third world countries, But there are companies that are more socially responsible than others.
I won't purchase Nike products because they are one of the biggest human rights and child labor law violators, and it seems that they don't care no matter how many news reports come out or how many lawsuits get thown at them. I just can't do it knowing what I know, and knowing is half the battle.
NB and Converse make shoes in the USA, no doubt, but they also make them in sweatshops as well. Read up on the reasons why Converse have different colored tags - it's because they are made by different plants in different markets designated by the different colors.
